European Project MUTUUS: Belgian Seminar

CEPLIS is currently involved in the realisation of the European Project MUTUUS, focusing on the extension of social protection to the Professional Self-Employed (PSE). The partners of this project, under the coordination of Confprofessioni, the Confederation of the Italian Liberal Professions, are now working towards drafting a Joint Opinion to be addressed to the European Commission in 2023.

In order to provide the Joint Opinion with inputs from the national stakeholders, each project partner organizes a national seminar.

The 7th of July was held the Belgian Seminar of the project, chaired by CEPLIS in collaboration with the Belgian National Union of the Liberal Professions (UNPLIB) and the Belgian ”Syndicat Neutre pour Indépendants (SNI), with the kind assistance of the ”Société de Médecine Dentaire” (SMD).

After a detailed presentation of the state of art of Social Security for the Self-employed in Belgium by the General Administrator of the National Institute for the Social Security of the Self-employed (INASTI), Ms. Anne Vanderstappen, participants exchanged views in a roundtable discussion coordinated by Professor Dr. Theodoros Koutroubas, Director General of CEPLIS. The discussion covered to the pros and cons of the Belgian system, discussed the challenges faced by their members, and gave the stakeholders the opportunity to express opinions on possible actions at the European level.

Several representatives of Liberal Professions and Professional Self-employed were present at the event. Their expertise and proposal will considerably contribute to the drafting of the Joint Opinion, and more broadly to the success of MUTUUS.

Mr. Ruwet (Vice-President of the UNPLIB), Mr. Jacquemin (President of the UNPLIB), Ms. Vanderstappen (Administrator General of the INASTI), Prof. Dr. Koutroubas (Director General of CEPLIS), Mr. Wambersie (Secretary General of the SNI)
